“Design an application to help farmers' markets.” This task may seem vague, however, through the process of attending and observing farmers' markets and through discussions with vendors and managers, my team and I were able to pinpoint a specific problem that causes farmers' markets to run less smoothly than they could: a lack of ability to communicate information easily between all parties. With this information, my team and I designed an application the help facilitate this discussion.

There were three phases while creating the functional specifications for this application. Each phase was subject to panel review. I worked with my team to create presentations and documents that showed the rationale behind each of our decisions and provided insight about how our application would be beneficial to farmers' markets.

Before proposing our application, my team and I attended and observed various farmers' markets and interviewed vendors and managers. Through our discussions we found various problems with disorganization. We took these issues and developed the idea for an application that would open lines of communication between the vendors, customers, and managers by creating a place for vendors to inform customers what products will be at the market and for managers to alert the public with market changes. After the acceptance of the proposal, we continued our research to determine the specific needs the market has for our application. Using this research, my team and I brainstormed solutions and developed features that would transform the current farmers' market experience. This conceptual design details the current farmers' market scenario and how our application would transform it. Collectively, we discussed the problems with the current scenario and determined the features. For the review, I created figures to illustrate the application's interactions and wrote about the transforming of the experience. A sample of this conceptual design can be found here.

Following the acceptance of our conceptual design, the final step was to work with my team to create wireframes and show the exact features of the application. This specification was written to be used during the development process, with a wireframe for each page and a description of each view. A sample of the functional specifications can be found here.
